10/14 Libra Eclipse – Our Own Worst Enemy

annular-solar-eclipse-6190815_1280

This Libra Solar Eclipse is well represented by the scales of justice.  A Solar Eclipse is like when the light goes off and then comes back on again, so you see things with fresh eyes.  That is, if you care to look.  I recommend it.   Because as an added bonus, we have something unusual cooking this eclipse.   It’s a slightly out of focus Yod.   I won’t go into astro geek here, because I’d rather share what I see and let you decide what it this configuration means to you.

We have Neptune, Uranus and Eris in this Yod, a tension laced, transformative change aspect  this Solar Eclipse.  Uranus is more closely exact. The Great Awakener brings liberation, break throughs and aha moments in relationships.  It’s not comfortable.  We can resist it by letting others set our boundaries instead of owning the necessity to do it for ourselves.  Or you can do your best to define another’s space instead of letting them do it for themselves. Good things to know about your edges. You might be surprised at where they really land when you do. If you resist necessary change, there are shocking endings. That’s the gift of Uranus, although it may not feel welcome.  You have a hand in how this all unfolds. It is not happening to you, it truly is happening for you.

Because the cosmic timer is going off on relationships of all kinds. The tension in the Yod won’t let us stay as we are, no matter how unsure we are of what comes next.  There are things that we must let go of as they are.  Now, each of those relationships served a purpose.  So the relationship itself was not a mistake.  However, you do have the choice to acknowledge where your offensive and/or defensive response to things is in direct opposition to closer connections. What’s in view is where we are our own worst enemy. The timer means to help shock us into being present more than we past or future project.

When we do, shift becomes inevitable. This is so you can expand beyond the safe and familiar space into more of what you were designed to be.  Some relationships need to end so each can move into new forms of relating.  Others need to deepen beyond where they exist now. A romance becomes friendship.  Colleagues become friends as a work relationship ends.  Friends become lovers or family.  It is necessary to map your current wants and needs – especially in light of those bonds. The crucial ingredient to include is respect for both ourselves and those around us.   In moving out of the familiar there is unexplored landscapes to help you discover what’s true for you now.

Both Eris and Neptune are in wide aspect it speaks to when we didn’t get needs met in our primary conditioning years (Eris), we longed for something that would be the perfect antidote to what hurt (Neptune).  Which is how our coping skills evolved to offset where we felt powerless.  Between one extreme of control to set all the boundaries and extreme passivity where the boundaries are set by another, you find your relational sweet spot.  Don’t spend too much time afraid to see and embrace our natural limits. They matter. Those limits actually help. Knowing them is part of our superpower. Because it helps us find and embrace those who compliment, contrast or even oppose where you think they land for you.

It’s a time to discover how adaptive and responsive you can be. It helps us evolve. Because you can’t defend yourself and create at the same time. Adapt and respond, adapt and respond. Especially when it comes to conflict. Too many or too little boundaries will stop you cold. These eclipses make opening up inevitable. If you are willing to see where you’ve been part of the biggest obstacles. So why not embrace change so you can roll with the motion and discover how to direct it better. Aries is the beginning of the Zodiac. Libra is the extension into partnership. This eclipse cycle insists you know and honor yourself better, so you can offer others the same. The Cards and Stars will help with some landmarks to steer by these next few months.

Thank you,

10/14 Libra Solar eclipse seven of wands

This is one of those cards with both a promise and a caution. What a great match to this eclipse. Because the tension in the Uranus, Eris, Neptune line up against this Libra Sun is well represented by both. Let’s tackle the underbelly first. This card means battles. Seven of Wands is the place where we retreat to moral superiority and fight ‘an enemy’ for righteous reasons. It can also hint at using your intuitive sense of survival to hit another in soft spots, just to evade or win and stay alive.

Except the reality is you have more firepower than you realize. Like swatting flies with cannonballs, the irritation and the response are unequally matched. It also means when you underestimate yourself you tend to cause more collateral damage than benefit with your actions. What a perfect Aries/Libra image. With youthful hubris your balance between self and other is unbalanced. It’s normal enough. But it costs so much energy, effort and clean up. There is a better way. If you will take a good look at where this imbalance happened and your part in it.

True collaboration requires curiosity and inquiry. You can’t insist on specific outcomes and still stay creative. You can’t default to others and still contribute your best part. Which is why exploring your strengths and weaknesses are valuable. YOUR strength is what’s at stake. Not someone else’s definition of what that means, but rather you define it. But if you can’t bear to see where you are misaligned, how can you bring it to alignment? So it’s time to surgically or relentlessly clean out the programming of what any outside authority deems as ‘best’ for you when it clashes with what is intrinsically you. You don’t need to fight so hard to be you. Neither is it helpful to try to tell others what you believe they should be doing. . The target is getting to a vulnerable ask that can deal with whatever the outcome may be.

Constructive disagreement is healthy. Feeling safe to disagree with others or hear a differing viewpoint without going to fight stance is also healthy. Hence the Seven of Wands. Can we learn to view opposition as being like cross beams in a ceiling. Solid beams aren’t afraid to find a meeting place and thereby hold up a house. Self esteem may need some attention so you can hold your shape when it doesn’t match another’s and not take that as you or they are doing something wrong. Invite a new perspective that is more of a definition about harmony versus conflict. There are tons of examples where different notes combine to make beautiful music. What has your conflict style been up until now and where are you open to a better version?

10/15 the fool

The Fool speaks to our body wisdom. It’s an innocent trust that you can take the next step and be okay. This comes in handy today as the Scorpio Moon trines Saturn to help us make a brave leap, big or small. With the Sun conjunct Uranus it is going to feel odd. It’s new, unfamiliar. Take your emotions in hand and listen to the stories your mind comes up with around what you feel. This is a great place to find where you underestimate yourself. Because when we expand into the unknown, pesky little doubts come in to herd us back to familiar territory.

The Moon and Mars meet up which can be a combustible pairing. Which is why the caution about the doubts and stories. Don’t worry if you go all puffer fish on something innocent. The Universe just wants to help you see your over reactions so you can work on right sizing them. Jupiter opposes Ceres, which can also bring up psychological indigestion. Those left over childhood stories you feed yourself will not agree with your emotional gut.

Once again, this helps you see the mismatch between what you think and what’s actually true. Feel your way. Contrary to your fear brain you don’t need to know the outcome in order to take the next step. Like headlights on a car, just navigate what you can see and you’ll do just fine for now. This builds the trust between your inner sense of yourself and the outer world. One choice at a time, you don’t just build strength, you gain insight into how powerful you are to create more of the life you want, no matter the circumstances.

10/16 nine of cups

If you want your dreams to come true, you have to be sure to hop off the victim/persecutor/rescuer ride. This Nine of Cups represents letting ‘the soft animal of our body want what it wants’ as Mary Oliver stated. We can have what we want or we can have a list of reasons why we can’t have it. Power is realized when we overcome obstacles in the best way for us to know ourselves capable of owning the dream. In other words, you don’t sit back and wait for life to bring it. When something blocks your path, can you get creative on fresh avenues to reach it. Necessity really is the ‘mother of invention’.

Which is why we choose a path of personal responsibility that is balanced. This means we don’t blame ourselves for things we can’t control. But we also don’t let that be the end of story. This ability to persevere is what builds resilience. It signals we believe we deserve to have what we want, even while we stay open to how it may look as we incorporate changes along the way. Nine’s are a master number. Jupiter and Saturn are in a supportive aspect to each other that is not easy but potent. While we extend ourselves in unfamiliar ways, we can select where it feels good to do so. Like a hard work out, it’s the right kind of sore. Once we approach it from this angle, the Moon and Uranus help free us from unnecessary fears. What a good day, indeed.

10/17 The tower

Well, this is not an easy symbol for the day. Yet the Tower offers welcome input on the crazy chaos in the world around us, when it combines with the aspects today. This is because Mercury and Uranus serve up an awkward but helpful capacity for careful, self discovery with real meaning. It assists you in facing challenging memories around rejection or abandonment. When you do, the Tower card shows you blow through previous limits. Because when you recall those events and face it from the solid ground you stand on now, it changes those events. You can begin to integrate and benefit from knowing you survived.

Being able to look at it from a kind and observant place, allows new information to come up. In fact, staying present for some of those difficult memories is a good way to retrain the part of you that felt abandoned or rejected in childhood. There’s no need to ‘fix’ the feeling. What’s necessary is to be witness to it for yourself. The crazy thing is that when you witness what happened to you and let yourself feel what you feel, the change feels atomic. It takes strength to see those old triggers and not act or react. Comfort yourself in whatever way feels right for your mood. Then, the sky is the limit to where you can go when you aren’t primed to see or experience day to day events as a repeat of the first woundings. There is freedom here for you.

10/18 seven of swords

Ah, the lies we tell ourselves and others, especially in relationships are at hand today. The Sun opposite Eris, Venus square to the Moon and Mercury with the South Node takes the insight from yesterday and applies it to our filter today. Ouch. This is the uncomfortable realization of when we are guilty of projecting our fears onto our partners to justify behaving ‘protectively’. Except now you can see where some instances are true boundary moments; while others are where you offended others from the wounded position. Take a good hard look at where we damage the strength of our connections with those lies.

Only when we are able to look the Truth squarely in the eyes, to know that we fail as humans, can we make corrections to the pattern that serve a greater good. Those early wounds inevitably leave marks. We must address where we lie to ourselves about the current need to protect ourselves, well beyond what helps us at present. Please, approach the corrections you make thoughtfully. No need to expose yourself to unhealthy circumstances only to be re-wounded as justification for going back to what we always do. Learn how to match the boundaries that serve you to the current circumstances. It’s a slow process, no rushing this. Small adjustments are more helpful in most cases. Face the lies we tell ourselves and we will indeed be free.

10/19 two of swords

Okay this Two highlights being of ‘two minds’ about something. The aspects agree. Mercury is in a quincunx with Neptune, which echoes the duality theme. What helps most is to check in on what you think might be true. Investigate, be curious and add some basic due diligence. What doesn’t help is to rely on what you wish to be true as an excuse not to dig any deeper. Remember yesterday’s Seven of Swords. The lies we tell our self are definitely within our power to correct.

When you can’t decide, pause. You probably don’t have the right criteria to sort your data or you don’t have the right data. Do your investigating. Check with your body on next steps. Because the body has a harder time lying to us than the mind does, every time. Learn how to assembly a better source of decision making, especially when triggered. It’s the silver lining to any frustration of the day. You can learn how to do this better from here on out.

10/20 queen of wands

When we use our intuitive abilities to help see ourselves more accurately, this Queen of Wands heralds successfully attracting what we require and want in business and personal areas of life. Mercury square to Pluto cautions that it’s not easy to really see our part in the struggles of our life, but we have them. The good news is the darkness, no matter how bad it is, falls back when you bring the light of self examination to bear. Yes it’s uncomfortable. You will see things you’d rather not be true about yourself.

And you can’t clean house if you won’t look at what’s dusty or dirty. This is not one you can farm out to a cleaning crew but by all means you can call on help when necessary. When you do, set good ground rules. They are there to hear and receive you, not to deny any of your shortcomings or dark spots. The goal is to allow the basement to air out with a little light and love. The Capricorn Moon trine Venus in Virgo and Jupiter in Taurus offer plenty of earthy support to get what’ necessary done. Think how brightly you’ll shine once you do.

10/21 prince of pentacles

Tensions are high today. There are power struggles to help bring to the surface where we need to assert ourselves or hold a boundary. Watch for ego and security fears. They can speak in loud tones but this doesn’t mean they have the right details to shout about. Check in with what your goal is before you battle. Do you know what you feel? Can you tune in to what’s behind the triggers that get tripped today? This Prince is the slow moving change that is steady and certain. So the more attention you pay to what your body has to offer, the more informed you will be.

Contractions or tension are best resolved before you act. Look for the places where whatever you need or want to do calls up a harmony of mind, body, heart and intuition. If you don’t know what that feels like, give your mind an order. Tell it to look for the next step that offers the best alignment of these for you. It’s best to move slowly or not at all unless you feel that sweet spot. If your mind is serving up a lot of reasons and rationale for doing something, check it. Because it’s a feeling, not a thought that leads the body when it’s on a harmonic path. See what you can uncover about that sweet spot in your experience. That way you can include it in more decisions.

10/22 the emperor

Your mind may want to run right over any more subtle guidance system in the upgrade going on for you today. The Emperor wants to say what it wants and be obeyed. How does the tyrant in your head show up in your life? We can confuse self discipline with internal bullying. Time to separate out the two of those responses. Self discipline feels good, like a hard choice we take on that makes us proud to do so. The bully makes us feel bad if we don’t do what we are supposed to do. You would think it is an easy choice, to do what feels better instead of worse.

But most of us have unconsciously internalized that punishing voice. Social comparisons have turned up the volume on harsh criticism thinly disguised as will power. Yes, we do want to choose things that benefit us, like not overspending or over eating. And we can do it with more grace. Today will most likely include a tug of war, you have the ability to dominate. Yet is domination the best use of power? Explore more avenues before you hand over decrees to be obeyed today, even if it is just inside your head. There is a noble use of power available, too. Find yours.

10/23 ace of cups

The Sun moves into Scorpio today, marking a four week exploration of the right use of power. The Moon is squared off with Uranus, which can electrify our responses to life. Tense Moon/Uranus aspects can feel like too much caffeine and sugar. Watch for sudden, sharp reactions. This Ace stands for the seeds of self love. When tended, those seeds of healthy self care can bloom beautifully. Do you know what triggers you and how you handle it? The better you understand what is likely to get under your skin and how to take the best care of you, the more strength and resilience you bring to those around you.

Imagine how much easier it would be if each one of us knew how to tend our triggers, right ourselves and then proceed from there. Can you picture the amount of lost time and energy you gain back when your triggers and projections aren’t battling another’s triggers and projections? Wow, what a picture. You can take some solid steps to help make that a reality, just by taking care of yourself mindfully today. Isn’t that good news?

10/24 three of swords

Well here’s a fun contrast. This card usually means tears and sorrows, delays and disappointments. Yet with today’s lovely aspects, instead it is more good news than bad. You have a lot of celestial support to leave old habits in the past. By all means, you can end things amicably, but something unhappy comes to a natural conclusion. This may feel more like a reason to celebrate and still there may be a few tears of goodbye. Grief is a human emotion no matter how much an ending was desired. We are complex puzzles with a sea of emotion that won’t neatly sort out, no matter how much we try. Better to work on understanding what you feel and what that feeling needs. The more you practice attuning to those waves, the better you sail the sea, no matter how stormy.

10/25 knight of cups

People will fall back on scheming when they don’t trust they can make their dreams come true any other way. Except there is always another way. Today’s card has us question the truth of our self-serving excuses for bending the rules in pursuit of what we want. Two Knights together can signal malicious schemes. Rather than assign malicious intent, I often see we are most guilty of rationalization to justify doing something we know isn’t the best way to accomplish our goal. The aspects today with Moon in Pisces, opposite Venus and sextile Pluto, can shed light on where we let ourselves be talked into to doing what we want to do but in a way that feels off.

Anyone can bend the rules and win. It’s not a real victory, although some will settle for it. The missed opportunity is to challenge yourself. When we are on a difficult road between us and what we want, overcoming the challenges show you something about yourself you wouldn’t find another way. Or it may be that you don’t really want it enough to overcome obstacles in your quest to gain the desire. Isn’t that good information to have, too? At the end of your life, putting in real effort towards deeply personal goals will be some of the most tangible part of what your legacy may be. Personal responsibility for not just what you do but how you do it, is a crucial part of working for the best of what life offers. Don’t you deserve that?

10/26 ace of wands

We will want to keep the image of this Ace handy today as it offers up situations that require healthy boundaries. Test decisions against a simple body check. A yes vote is the feeling of open, alert and yet relaxed posture. You may even find yourself leaning forward. With the Moon in Aries, keep it to one step at a time. This checks the ‘fools rush in’ impulse. When decisions require you to make your best choice, the body has a harder time lying to you. So set your intention to get clear direction you understand, feel whether your body is open, ready and relaxed about it, then act in small bites. Keep checking as you go.

If you feel tension, tightness or unease, say no. This may take more work for some of us, wired to please. Yet the aspects today aren’t going to let you do what you’ve always done without discomfort. It’s time to speak our truth as best we can. I love the phrase, ‘I’m not a yes for that’. I’ll even explain my muscle testing and say until my body knows I’m good to go, I will be staying put. No explanation needed. There’s no discussion around changing my mind. My body isn’t ready and until it is, the timing isn’t right. In some cases, I highly doubt the timing will ever be ‘right’ but I deflect an argument as I build muscle to hold healthier boundaries when others clearly want me to do otherwise.

Pick your path. But map your yes and no today. You can go beyond fitting in or achieving at too high of a cost. Bonus, once you set a new boundary (or hold one in a new way) then you know you can do it. If you can do it once, you can do it again. Two Aces in a cycle highlight union. What holds all of you in place? Your boundaries do. Where will you take the extra step to set or hold an better boundary today? Do remember, you can also help honor those lines when others offer them up today, too. Take this as a creative challenge – the opposite of Jenga. With each boundary you honor the structures get more stable and you can use inspiration to find a better way to achieve the goal.

10/27 six of wands

We began the eclipse season with the Seven of Wands and end this first cycle on the Six of Wands. This card is the symbol for small victories. As the Moon meets up with Chiron, we remember that it’s our turn to parent ourselves the way we wish we had been parented. We make it safer for us to open up, take smart risks and brave the world around us and the adventures it holds. Small victories means we celebrate those internal milestones, too. Only you truly understands what effort and courage some changes take. Because it’s your inner world you govern.

So do take a moment before the Lunar eclipse tomorrow and give yourself credit for the last couple weeks, at least. If you feel like expanding the range, by all means do. What victories are yours that deserve your full attention for doing the hard things? Whether you did them perfectly or not is not the issue. We learn as we go. You did them. You can improve on them as you see fit. Wands are fire and we know fire requires fuel. So give yourself the praise, applause, recognition and respect you have earned. It helps keep you lit up for the fun ahead.
